HRVHS students jump off Hood River
Marina to raise money for FISH food bank

With hail falling from the sky, a group of
Hood River Valley High School students figured the water in the
Hood River Marina could not be any colder than the air outside, so
they jumped in to raise money for FISH food bank.
The leap was part of the school's annual
canned food drive for the food bank, and the group decided to one
up a group that jumped into Andy von Flotow's pond last year by
jumping into cold river water this year.
Von Flotow again promised to pledge for
each swimmer jumping and about 20, plus teacher Troy Tactay,
jumped into the water.
Most got out as quickly as they jumped in,
although a brave few swam across to the boat launch area, where
they were greeted with (mostly) dry towels.
