A former spa business location will become a place to pool one’s savings later this year.

CenterPointe Community Bank is scheduled to open on West Cascade in October in the former Mid Columbia Pool and Spa building. Renovations began last week on the future bank.

Board member Scott Baklenko said CenterPointe will offer community and business banking services including business operations loans and investment management services.

The Initial Stock Offering (IPO) for CenterPointe will happen sometime in May, and the bank will have a grand opening in October, according to Baklenko, who will also continue as President and Chief Executive Officer with Hood River’s Timberline Financial Services.

A CenterPointe branch will also open in The Dalles in six to eight months.

At a series of "road show" information meetings in Hood River, The Dalles, Portland, and other larger Northwest cities, CenterPointe will present the company business plan to the public, Baklenko said.

Ray Sprung will be chief operations officer for CenterPointe, and Mahlon Viggesa will be chief executive officer. Baklenko said Sprung and Viggesa bring "30-plus years of executive banking" to CenterPointe.

The bank will employ 30-35 people between the Hood River and The Dalles offices.

“The idea was to bring a real relationship based bank once again to the Gorge, and really having an influence on the local community and being connected to the clients and their needs,” Baklenko said.

Plans are to include ATM and drive-up services.

“Right now we’re working to meet all the federal and state requirements,” Baklenko said.
