An expert in dual language programs will speak Monday at 6 p.m.
at Hood River Valley High School Bowe Theatre.
Kathryn Lindholm-Leary, Ph.D., from San Jose University, will
give a presentation on “Research and Best Practices for
Implementing Dual Language Programs.” The community is welcome
to attend.
Parents have until March 21 to apply for a spot in the new dual
language charter school that Hood River County School District
plans to open in fall 2006.
The School Board approved the school in concept last week.
The district plans to place the charter school at Westside
Elementary School. Two new portables have been ordered to
accommodate the school.
According to a letter sent to parents of elementary students,
the charter program will include one class at each grade level
from kindergarten through fifth grade.
Students from any of the elementary schools in Hood River County
are eligible to register to attend the bilingual charter school.
Registration forms have been sent to elementary parents and are
also available at the local schools and at the District Office,
located at 1011 Eugene Street in Hood River.
If more than 25 students in any grade level register, a lottery
will be held to determine participation.
The lottery will be conducted on March 22 and parents will be
notified within the next week. Students who do not make the
first lottery will be placed on a waiting list. |
