The back-to-school load will get a bit lighter for 200
low-income families.
That’s how many backpacks, filled with school supplies, are
available at Hood River County Health Department, 11th and June
streets. The backpacks are courtesy of the Salvation Army and
local volunteers.
Last week, Catherine and T. Dalbey of Hood River and other
volunteers filled the backpacks with notebooks, paper, pencils
and many other supplies, paid for through community donations
received throughout the year, along with grants from businesses
including Windermere Realty and Wal-Mart.
The backpacks are available to children in grades kindergarten
through 8th grade from families on food stamps or enrolled in
the Free and Reduced Meal programs with the schools, according
to Catherine Dalbey, who is principal of Wy’east Middle School. |
