Trevor Lariza, a Pine Grove Elementary first-grader, center,
seems to be taking Red Ribbon Week seriously as he accepts a
certificate and sticker from Hood River Policer Officer Sal
Rivera during an assembly Thursday. Rivera and County Deputy
Ricardo Castanenda, right, are both Pine Grove alumni. At left
is County Sheriff Capt. Jim Tomson. The assembly featured songs,
essays on the dangers of drugs and tobacco and “Just Say No”
skills written by students, and words of encouragement from Hood
River Valley High School students, County Drug Prevention
Coordinator Maija Yasui (center, rear), and Rivera. From left
are Ashlee Ponce, Adrian Toche, Trevor Lariza, Jenna Mosqueda,
Morelia Rivera, and Janessa Castañeda. Red Ribbon Week also
commemorates the late Kiki Camarena of the Drug Enforcement
Agency, who died in the line of duty. |
