Odell Lions continue bus shelter tradition

January 2, 2008

Two new bus shelters, each designed to hold up to 16 students, have been installed in the upper valley through the efforts of the Odell Lions Club.

Bus driver Daryl Slining called Lion James Mathews about the need. The Odell Lions paid for framing materials and donations from a number of individuals and businesses in the community that helped make the shelters a reality.

Bart Mooney donated labor for construction and also materials and labor for roofing. He provided sheltered space on his property so the shelters could be painted by Odell Lions.

Paul Lavoie provided heated, enclosed shop space to dry panels so benches and floors could be painted. Darren Routson transported completed shelters from the shop to their permanent locations.

Mathews has taken responsibility for maintenance of existing Lions-sponsored shelters around the county. In 2008, the Lions plan to inventory the shelters and set up a maintenance schedule.

The Odell Lions can use more members to help with projects such as the bus shelters. They meet next on Jan. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rebekah’s Lodge in Odell. For more information, call Dick Cathey at 490-1245.
