Artists ‘Capture
the Rapture’ at Columbia Gallery
The theme of the January art show opening
Friday at the Columbia Art Gallery is “Insight: New Year, New
Works.”
The 106 gallery artists have been asked to
exhibit their most recent new work that reflects the fun, joy,
and beauty which they feel in creating art.
The works represent the broad range of
interests of the artists. The show includes, but is not limited
to: sculpture, printmaking, painting, works in glass,
photography, jewelry making, weaving, pottery and mixed media.
This is a special type of show not done
before in Hood River in terms of theme, number of participating
artists, and range of work.
The show is curated by
painter/printmaker/blueberry farmer Ted James. His artistic
career has spanned 60 years, with museum shows and
retrospectives of his work, curating of shows of others, and
extensive writings and teaching on art, artists, and
printmaking.
A special directed anonymous grant has made
possible both the awarding of $1,500 in prizes to artists and an
expanded educational program for children in January.
“Beat the January fog-blues, come see a fun,
‘whack upside the head’ show that is diverse, intimate and
engaging,” said Gallery Manager Catherine Kiewit.
The public is invited to the festive artist
reception on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
