Community Ed offers
classes for adults, kids

Hood River Community Education offers the following classes this week. To sign up for any of the following classes, call Community Education at 386-2055.

For adults

Wednesday, Jan. 30

• Webmail, 9 a.m. to noon at Coe Primary Building, room 2. People without a computer or who are away from home can send and receive e-mail and learn why there are good reasons to have an additional e-mail address. Basic computer skills required. Fee: $20.

• Files and Folders II (basics), 1-3 p.m. at Coe Primary Building, room 2 (also offered Jan. 31). Pre-requisite: Files and Folders I or familiarity with DOS, Windows terms and navigation techniques. Fee: $15.

• Wine Making Basics, 6-7:30 p.m. (also offered Feb. 26) at Hood River Middle School, room 101. Fee: $150 for one session plus private consultation.

• Leveraging Creative Thinking for Business, 6-9 p.m. at Hood River Valley High School, room B 11. Fee: $65.

Thursday, Jan. 31

• Files and Folders II (Basics), 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Coe Primary Building, room 2. Pre-requisite: Files and Folders I or familiarity with DOS, Windows terms and navigation techniques. Fee: $15.

Friday, Feb. 1

• Cross Country Ski Weekend, Friday through Sunday. Two days of back-country skiing and two nights at the U.S. Forest Service Flag Point Lookout Tower. Departs from Friend, Ore. Fee: $50 per person.

Saturday, Feb. 2

• Snow Shoeing Lessons (second of two sessions; the first was not mandatory), 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. departing from the Coe Primary parking lot. Snow shoes can be rented at Doug’s Sports. Class fee: $25.

• Intermediate Excel, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Coe Primary Building, room 2. Open to anyone with a working knowledge of Excel. Fee: $45.

• Eco-Friendly Shopping Bag, 2-4 p.m. at Hood River Sewing and Vacuum (also offered March 15). Make a lightweight, washable shopping bag with handles (bring dark blue or black thread). Fee: $15 plus $7 fee for supplies.

• Adobe Photoshop I, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hood River Middle School, room 402. Fee: $50.

• Glass Valentines with Kiln-formed Fused Glass, in two sessions, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Hood River Middle School woodshop (also offered Feb. 9-10). Fee: $80 for two sessions.

• Scottish Country Dancing Workshop, 1-3 p.m. at Hood River Middle School, old gym. Open to ages 12 and older. Fee: $25.

• Golf Tune-up Workshop, 1-3 p.m. at Hood River Middle School, multi-purpose room (also offered Feb. 9 and 16). Bring your clubs if you have them. Fee: $30.

• Portland Winter Hawks Hockey Trip, 5-11:30 p.m. departing from Jackson Park. Included will be an orientation to the game of hockey, fantastic reserved seats right behind the glass and bus transportation. Fee: $30.

For kids

To sign up for any of the following classes, call Community Education at 386-2055.

Thursday, Jan. 31

• What is a Shadow?, noon to 2 p.m. at Frankton School, for ages 3-6. Discover what a shadow is and where it comes from in this science-focused class. A great prelude to Groundhog Day. Fee: $10.

Saturday, Feb. 2

• The Art of Compassion, two classes for children at Our Children’s Place. The first will be for grades K-2, from 10 a.m. to noon; the second will be for grades 3-5, from noon to 2 p.m. The children’s work will be sold at a benefit April 5 for CASA. Fee: $15.

• Valentine Treats and Candy Making, 2:30-4:30 p.m. at Hood River Middle School, room 101. Children in grades K-5 will make a variety of homemade candies and treats. All ingredients and materials included. Fee: $12.
