The Columbia Gorge Hotel was named one of the 500 best hotels in
the world by Travel + Leisure in its January issue.
One of only three Oregon hotels to make the
list, the team of reporters and editors wrote the Columbia Gorge
Hotel stood out because of its history and breathtaking scenery.
The editors also recommended the white-linen picnic lunch
prepared by the hotel to enjoy at Multnomah Falls.
“We are so proud to be recognized by Travel +
Leisure,” said Glen Lewis, Columbia Gorge Hotel’s general
manager. “The hotel is in the middle of a renaissance stage
right now. We are offering new services, like shuttles to Mount
Hood and the airport, updating the hotel and offering new
packages to our guests. It’s important for us to leave a lasting
impression and Travel + Leisure adding us to the list validates
our efforts.”
The other Oregon hotels are Hotel Vantage in
Portland and Tu Tu’Tun Lodge in Gold Beach. Of the three,
Columbia Gorge Hotel is the only new member of the Travel +
Leisure list.
The magazine culled the highest rated hotels
on the list from its World’s Best survey. The list identifies
what gives each hotel a competitive edge and advises readers
which amenities should not be missed. This year the publication
added a satellite mapping option for readers from Google Earth

Built in 1921 by timber tycoon Simon Benson,
the Columbia Gorge Hotel is a magnificent villa offering
sweeping views of the Columbia River. The Hotel was a favored
retreat for movie stars like Clara Bow and Shirley Temple and
presidents Roosevelt and Coolidge.
Today guests come from all over the world to
experience the history, scenery, luxury and many activities the
hotel and region offer. The hotel is a member of the Preferred
Hotel Group.
