When I was in the sixth grade I started
attending Horizon Christian School. My classroom was in the
basement of a church and our recess was in the parking lot.
I began to hear people talking about a building
project and I could not wait to see it get underway. In reality
our building has been a dream for longer than I have been alive.
Plans progressed and finally we acquired some
land. After it was cleared we took a bus full of kids to see the
land, we stood in a dirt field.
One year later we went back and the field had
turned into a building. During the next Thanksgiving we moved
into our new home. The building was wonderful; however it was
not completely finished. We did not have a gym. But now, after a
year-long wait, we do.

Last year when we played a “home” game, it meant
playing in someone else’s home. We had to set up and take down
all of our equipment at every game. But now we have our own
home, a place that is truly ours.
With our first game in the gym comes many
emotions for everyone involved. We are all so happy to see this
day finally come. I am thrilled that it happened before I
graduated.
I am also so excited that we now have our own
place to put down roots, a place where we can hang up banners,
and leave them up, a place where we can sell “hawk dogs” in our
own concession stand.
It is good to be home.
