Hood River
students may have felt sorry for kids in Cascade Locks last winter when
the latter had to go to school on “snow days,” but now it’s the CL kids’
turn to feel sorry — school is out for them, whereas the Hood River
students have to wait until next week.
Tuesday, June 19
is the last day of school for the rest of Hood River County Schools. It
will be an early release day for students; a full day for teachers.
Teachers will also work a full day June 20.
Since next year’s
school calendar has emergency closure makeup days built in, school will
end on the same day for all Hood River County students. The makeup days
are scheduled for Feb. 15, March 21 and May 2. Staff and parents should
assume that these will be regular school days and student attendance will
be expected.
In the event that
makeup days aren’t needed, however, parents and staff will be given plenty
of notice, Superintendent Pat Evenson-Brady told the school board
Wednesday evening.
“If any day is not
needed for an Emergency Closure Makeup, the date will be announced as a
non-school day two weeks in advance, through the school district Web site,
parent newsletters, newspaper, TV and radio,” she said. But she stressed
that until that point, each emergency closure makeup day should be
considered a regular attendance day.
