Beef and blueberries at Saturday Market

July 11, 2007

Blueberry season begins officially this week. The Saturday Market will have local blueberries over the next month and a half and will also be hosting the first Blueberry Festival on Aug. 11.

The market offers a day of arts, crafts, farm goods, music, food, and entertainment.

Jefferies Ranch Beef is the market’s “Featured Vendor of the Week” this week. Tim and Keely Jefferies are fourth-generation owners of this cattle ranch. Tim grew up as a cattle rancher in Grass Valley. Their beef is locally grown, grass fattened, free-range, antibiotic and hormone-free. The ranch is also eco-friendly and operates “off the grid” — it is run completely on solar power.

Tim read an article in the magazine Mother Earth News, and the couple made the decision to convert. Even the freezer for their Saturday Market booth is run on solar power. Jefferies began selling at market in 2002 as a way to diversify.

At the market you can buy steaks, burgers, roasts, ribs, and more. Jefferies Ranch can be contacted by e-mail, keelyjefferies@hotmail.com.

Bob Connolly, a market favorite, will be performing his country/blues/folk music from noon to 2 p.m.

The market is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine from May through September.
