Three Seniors
Meet Hannah Wesner, Horizon Christian

October 15, 2007

In Three Seniors, a trio of students will share insights on their 2007-08 school year, right up through graduation in June. Throughout the year, the Hood River News will carry updates on Horizon Christian School’s Hannah Wesner (pronounced WESS-ner), Kory Harding, of Hood River Valley High School, and Mikayla Ryan, of Cascade Locks.

Here are Hannah’s responses to the first “Three Seniors” questionnaire:

1. What do you think of participating in the Three Seniors project?

I enjoy getting to write. I love being able to have my voice heard.

2. How did you spend the summer of 2007?

At the end of June I went on a two-week mission trip to Nochixtlán, Mexico. We worked on a small ranch that is being turned into a retreat center. I went camping with my family. I spent the rest of the summer hanging out with my two best friends, Jill Wells and Josh Boyden.

3. Where is your favorite place to go in Hood River County?

My favorite place in Hood River County is any place that my friends are. What makes a place amazing is not what is there to see or do but who is there to see and do it with you.

4. What is your class load like this term?

I am taking AP Literature, Physics, Theology, Government/Economics and AP Art.

5. What challenging or interesting classes lie ahead this year?

My most challenging class is Physics. I have never liked science or math. I would much prefer English class!

6. What challenging or interesting experiences, other than school, do you anticipate in the next few months?

Every day holds its own unexpected challenges. I am involved in Chamber Leaders for Tomorrow and we are beginning to plan our service learning project for this year. It could prove to be quite a challenge to get upwards of 13 kids to come together and decide on a project to work on.

7. What do you most enjoy studying?

I enjoy studying literature. Anything poetry is good for me!

8. What is your earliest memory of your school years?

The earliest thing that I remember about school is when I was in kindergarten. We lived in Medford, and I remember my dad would always drop me off for school in our old Volkswagen Bug.

9. What was the last book you read, and what did you think of it?

“Anthem” by Ayn Rand. I love this book and have read it several times. It outlines the desire that every human has to be seen as an individual, to be loved and wanted apart from a collective. That is something that everyone on this earth can relate to.

10. What are your hobbies, passions, or favorite things to do?

I love to read, write, crochet, sing and play the guitar. I would like nothing better than to spend a whole day by a window while it is raining. I love music, any kind of music — well, not country.

I really like living in Hood River. I love getting in the car and driving without any place to go. I enjoy making beautiful things that can be shared with and enjoyed by people. I want to be able to make a difference in someone’s life.

Hannah is the daughter of Andrew and Cindy Wesner. Her siblings are Josh, 13, and Sarah, 11.
