An aptly-named breast
cancer awareness event, “The Support Show,” happens during First
Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m., at Columbia Center for the Arts,
213 Cascade, at Third Street.
Design teams comprised
of fashion designers, high school art students and fiber artists
will collaborate to create 12 wearable art bras to be modeled by
breast cancer survivors in a fashion show in our theatre.
The bras will be
auctioned on Nov. 8 at the Melika Holiday Fashion Show and
featured in a calendar that can be purchased in the gallery
throughout the months of November and December.
Admission is free and
are available at Columbia Center for the Arts. There is a
suggested donation of $5.
Funding from the Susan
G. Komen Foundation, and support from Providence Hood River
Memorial Hospital and Celilo Cancer Center in The Dalles make
this event possible, according to organizers.
During the Support Show
event and throughout the month of November, artist, Peny Wallace
will display life-castings of five cancer survivors in the show,
“Beauty Remains.” In the show, Wallace presents
three-dimensional portraits of the human form that she describes
as “a moment stopped in time.”

Gallery openings can be found in Happenings, page C3.
