Women of Distinction

November 1, 2007

Soroptimist International of Hood River has announced the winners of the 2007 Women of Distinction award: Avalon Totten-Denton, Shirley Karr and Barbara Young.

The trio will be honored at a luncheon Friday, Nov. 9, at the Gorge Room of the Best Western Hood River Inn.

This award honors women who have volunteered or gone beyond their job for the good of the community in various fields for at least 10 years.

Totten-Denton’s “can-do” attitude, selflessness and enthusiasm for any project that benefits the community has endeared her to countless organizations and individuals.

Karr has worked tirelessly for both the city and county of Hood River through many activities.

Young was a dedicated Providence Memorial Hospital employee for 20 years and started its volunteer program; she has also chaired many Soroptimist service projects, has served on the boards of New Parent Services, CAST and Columbia Art Center.

Tickets for the event are $15 for the buffet and need to be purchased in advance at Waucoma Bookstore.
