Author Dave Burkhart,
well-known for his 30-plus years as an OSU Extension
horticulturist, has written a new book, “It All Began with Apple
Seeds: Growing Fruit in the Hood River Valley, 1880-1980.”
Burkhart will sign copies
of the book on Nov. 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. at The History Museum of
Hood River County. The museum is located just off of Interstate
84 at exit 64 in Hood River.
The event is presented in
partnership by: The Fruit Foundation Historical Society, The
Hood River County Historical Society and The History Museum of
Hood River County.
Refreshments will be
provided. The event is free and open to the public.
“This is a great chance to
meet and speak with the author, Dave Burkhart, personally about
the research and effort that went into the creation and
publishing of this special book,” said Museum Coordinator Connie
Nice.
The book outlines the
history of the fruit industry of Hood River County, with
extensive detail and numerous photos and color reproductions of
historic fruit labels.
Burkhart wrote his book
“with Ruth Guppy” — drawing extensively on the writings of the
late Hood River historian, including many of her columns from
the Hood River News.
Copies of the book will be
available for purchase and to be signed at this event.
“We are honored to be
hosting this special book-signing event in partnership with The
Fruit Foundation and The Historical Society,” Nice said. “We
have watched Dave work hard over the past few years on the
research and content of this book, and it’s great to finally see
the fruits of his effort.”
