Hood River Valley High
School’s production of Children of Eden opened last weekend, and
continues this weekend and next, closing on Nov. 17.
The story is based on
the first 10 books of Genesis in the Old Testament, with Father,
Adam and Eve as the first family to face the many issues common
among even contemporary families.
One thing unique about
this musical is the large cast remains onstage, or in certain
scenes in the theater aisles, for the entire show.
“It is a really powerful
play; there are a few moments were tears come to my eyes, even
though we’ve run through it what seems like hundreds of times,”
said one of the production’s Storytellers.
But what Children of
Eden is likely best-known for is its illustrious music and
lyrics, written by Stephen Schwartz. Schwartz’s most recent
acclaim is the Broadway hit, Wicked, but he is also well-known
for Godspell and Pippin.
Children of Eden
continues Friday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 10 at 1:30
and 7 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 11, at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16, at 7
p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 17, at 1:30 and 7 p.m.
Tickets are available at
Waucoma Bookstore and at the door with prices $7 for adults, $5
students, children and seniors.
The Sunday, Nov. 11,
matinee features a buy-one-get-a-second-half-price ticket
special.
All performances are in
the Bowe Theatre at HRVHS. The singers are accompanied by a live
orchestra. The play is directed by Mark Steighner.
