It’s “Mother’s” day this Thanksgiving week.

Mother’s Marketplace, on Highway 35, celebrates its 10th year Nov. 18-21 with free samples, goodies and balloons, and a daily drawing at 7 p.m. for a newly minted Mother’s T-shirt. (Winner does not need to be present.)

Chris and Margaret Ohlson opened Mother’s in 1997 in Lyle, and soon moved the store to Highway 14 in Bingen. In November 2002, primarily because of major road construction, the Ohlsons moved to Hood River next to Tum-A-Lum Lumber and Windance.

“Some bumpy times followed for us, but thanks to the local community an amazing rallying of local support carried us through,” Margaret said. “We are indeed grateful to everyone. Please come help us say thank you personally.”

The store features an organic vegan deli with hot soup, pizza, frozen fruit smoothies and a fresh juice bar. Mother’s also stocks fresh organic produce and has an extensive selection of bulk foods.

During Thanksgiving week, the store will provide samples of veggie franks, and serve mini root-beer floats and more.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 10 to 3 on Fridays. The store will be closed Thanksgiving Day and on Friday, Nov. 23.
