The Hood River Soil &
Water Conservation District Board of Directors is seeking a
county resident interested in its work for appointment to fill
an unexpired term on the board.
The board of directors
meets monthly on the first Thursday.
The mission of the
Conservation District is to provide educational, technical and
financial assistance to the community for the protection,
conservation and restoration of natural resources.
The district works in
partnership with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation
Service, as well as a number of other agencies and individuals.
Current projects include creation of a Rural Living Handbook,
sponsorship of the Hood River Watershed Group and management of
the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board’s small grant program in
Hood River.
The district is seeking
an individual who is knowledgeable about natural resources, owns
or manages land in Hood River County and has expertise or
interest in forestry, farming and/or livestock.
This is a “zone”
position, so the requirements are that the person be a
registered voter, county resident and own or manage 10 acres of
land in the lower Hood River Valley.
Individuals willing to
serve in the volunteer position should send a letter of interest
to District Manager Anne Saxby at 3007 Experiment Station Road,
Hood River, OR 97031. The term of office runs until Dec. 31,
2008, but the district would like to appoint an individual who
would be willing to run for an additional four-year term.
General information about the district
can be found on its Web site at www.hoodriverswcd.org. For more
information about the board position and responsibilities, the
district and/or activities, call 386-6719 or 386-4588.
