December 26, 2007Here it is
Dec. 26; it seems as if the Christmas preparations had just
gotten started. With the speed of Christmas’ passing, never has
it seemed more evident that it long ceased being a day but has
evolved into a “season.” Such status is accorded no other
holiday. We rarely say “Are you ready for July 4?” nor are
Memorial Day or Thanksgiving “rush” so steeped in the lexicon.
If the “Christmas rush” has you tied up in something other
than ribbon, there is one Christmas Eve event that provides an
antidote of sorts. Most readers will see this newspaper on Dec.
26, but if you read this paper when it hits the streets
Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, there would still be time to attend the
non-denominational Christmas dinner at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church on Belmont from 4-7 p.m.
The dinner is free, and a great way to celebrate community.
Consider attending to be a gift to the volunteers who donate the
food and their cooking skills.
May all your holidays be happy.
