It’s hard to believe: the Hood River County Fair will be back next
week.Fair time is when people start to get a sense of summer winding
down, just when it seemed to get going.
“Looking forward to school?” tends to replace “How’s your summer
going?” in friends’ conversations.
So look upon fair as everyone’s chance to grab hold of summer for all
it’s worth: Go and see the animals, the flowers, the paintings, enjoy
the rides at the midway, the concerts, the car show, the barbecues,
the dog show, and meet the vendors, the kids displaying their
projects, and, yes, the clown on stilts.
And don’t forget to say thank you to the Lions Club members who are
directing the parking of cars. It’s a hot, tiring job that deserves
the gratitude of anyone driving to the fairgrounds in Odell.
Judging and entry opportunities start as early as Monday; check out
the fair books, available at businesses and libraries around the
county, for more information. Saturday’s newspaper will recount the
key dates and times, along with more details on the fair. |
