Flu shot clinics are easy to find this year. Around here, they are one
of the least scary vaccination experiences imaginable.
Health experts recommend flu shots or nasal “FluMist” treatments for
people of all ages, in particular children and the elderly, as part of
a prevention and hygiene regimen for staving off influenza this
winter. Please turn to page B1 for details about the vaccine, costs,
and a schedule of vaccination clinics.
At one of the first such events, the public was greeted by a crowd of
friendly faces, from volunteers signing them in to the Health
Department and Women Infants and Children employees providing related
health information, right up through the nurses who administer the
vaccine itself.
“It’s definitely a community event,” said nurse Jana Austin in the
Community Building at the county fairgrounds Thursday. “It’s a social
occasion. You see people you know, and you have a chance to talk. We
all enjoy it, and that helps people relax,” she said.
Vaccines are available aplenty this year, unlike past years when the
supply, at least in public perception, was low.
The decision to get any vaccination is always a personal one, and it
may not be a healthy choice for some people, but this November there
is no denying the ample opportunity to get the shot if you want one. |
