Snow day nonsense

The “bored board” members of the Hood River County School Board must have a lot of time on their hands.

I cannot think of any other reason for the recent announcement regarding how make up snow days will be handled. Several hundred families in the county may have to make alternative plans for their children with a two-week or less notice if the board decides to cancel (?) an unused snow day.

Is there no one on the board with children in public schools? My wife and I are fortunate enough to have flexible schedules which will permit us to care for our children should this ridiculous snow day policy upset our son’s normal schedule. I doubt many others will be afforded the same flexibility at their respective jobs.

I have friends and family all across the country who have school-aged children. Never have I heard a snow day policy even remotely similar or disruptive than the one announced last week by our school board. I urge the board to reconsider and take a more sensible approach to make-up days. Adjust the school year end date ahead or back to ensure an adequate length school year as most districts do.

Watching waddlers

Re: the Waddling Bandit:

Please, please, for the safety and security of all us older men who waddle, hold a showing of “The Usual Suspects” for all the FBI agents involved in tracking this criminal down.

I am sure that after the movie they will thank you for saving their time by no longer looking at us waddlers. Did not the master criminal of the movie, Kaiser Sosay, also waddle for the benefit of interrogating police?
