Joan Eastwood

Joan Patricia Eastwood, a Hood River, Ore., resident, died Dec. 31, 2007, at her residence. She was 79 years of age.

Joan was born Dec. 29, 1928, in Lafayette, Ind., the youngest daughter to Charles and Addye (Bolton) Hartley. She married George Eastwood in 1946 while he was serving in the U.S. Navy and stationed in Pensacola, Fla.

Upon his retirement from the service in 1963, they moved with their family to Portland, Ore. George was then employed with the U.S. Postal Service and both were active in the Fleet Reserve.

In 1977 George retired again and they moved to Hood River and built their home together. Joan was active in the Hood River Art Club and also wrote poetry. In November 2004, the Hood River News published an article written by Joan about growing up during the Great Depression.

She is survived by her husband, George; her daughter, Laura; sons George and Charles; and sister, Jean Hartley. Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
