She was born June 7, 1930, to William and Ruth (Terry) Rowe. She grew up in Yonkers, N.Y., attending St. Denis Catholic School and Commerce High School.

She enjoyed a high-spirited early life living in several locations in the United States. She dealt blackjack opening night at the Cal-Nev Casino in Reno and had other adventurous trips to Alaska before settling down to marry Lester “Festus” Haworth; they married in White Salmon and lived in Underwood until she retired from Washington State Social Services and Lester from a full range of logging endeavors.

After retiring they traveled throughout the western United States and Canada and upon returning moved to Hood River and then on to The Dalles.
