Tastings at White Buffalo

White Buffalo Wines will feature Bolton Cellars on Saturday, April 19, and Wind River Cellars on Sunday, April 20. Tastings are from 1-4 p.m. Chocolates will be available as well as fresh cut flowers. White Buffalo Wines, 4040 Westcliff Dr., Hood River; 386-5534.

Listen Up! Local music this week

It’s Blossom Weekend and music from local bands will fill the air. On Friday, April 18, it’s Bob Connolly and band at the Trillium Cafe in Hood River. Music starts at 8 p.m. and there is no cover charge. On Saturday, April 19, the CEBU Lounge at the Best Western in Hood River has John Bunzow, Chic Preston and Tim Ortlieb. Music starts at 9 and goes until midnight. You can catch local guitarist Ben Bonham on Saturday, from 2-5 p.m. at The Pines Tasting Room in Hood River, and from 8-10 p.m. at Double Mountain Brewery. On Sunday, April 20, it’s Bob Connolly at Double Mountain Brewery in Hood River. Music is from 7-9 p.m.

‘Beirut,’ more at River City

On Saturday, April 19, Rediviva magazine presents Little Beruit, an Indie rock outfit from Portland that is garnering critical acclaim. For more information, go to www.myspace.com/littlebeirut. Anthony Smith's Trunk Fulla Funk, featuring Anthony Smith, Aaron Bleiweiss, Matt Schumacher, Jake Najor, Igmar Thomas, and Walt Williams have a new CD, “Life As We Know It.” They are performing at the River City on Sunday, April 20. New Monsoon is coming to the River City on Friday, April 25. ‘The Art of Movement’ April 18-19

The Columbia Center for the Arts and Columbia Gorge Dance Academy presents “The Art of Movement,” on Friday and Saturday, April 18-19. The event starts at 7 p.m. at the Columbia Center for the Arts. Enjoy performances of hip hop, break, Brazilian, lyrical, Polynesian, belly dance, ballet, modern, jazz, and Mexican folk dance. Ticket prices are $10 and $8 for seniors and students. Pheasant Valley celebrates April 19

Pheasant Valley Winery celebrates its fourth anniversary on Saturday, April 19. To celebrate, local favorite Bob Connolly will be performing upbeat dance tunes. Sample our new releases including Estate Organic Pinot Noir, Estate Organic Pinot Gris and River City Pink. An assortment of hors d'oeuvres will also be provided. Columbia Gorge Fiddle Contest May 2-4

The 2008 Columbia Gorge Fiddle Contest has been scheduled for May 2-4, at the Hood River Middle School auditorium. This event will showcase local and regional contestants and prizes will be awarded for various age groups and divisions. This event is filled with music for all ages, with some of the nation's best contest fiddlers as well as fresh new talent from acoustic musicians.

A Friday night concert will feature Fiddlegrass, Tim Connell and Mike Burdette, The Voetberg Family and Buck Smith with Bob & Barney Connolly. Tickets are $15 in advance, available at the Oak Street Hotel, Waucoma Bookstore, Dickey Farms in Bingen, and Columbia River Music in The Dalles.

On Saturday the contest schedule begins at 9 a.m. Tickets are $10 adult, $5 youth. An entertainment showcase begins at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the contest begins at 9 a.m., and trophy awards will be presented at noon. Tickets are $5. Visit www.columbiagorgefiddlecontest.com for more details.
