Golden Garter Theatre opens

“A Magical Melodrama” at the Golden Garter Theater is a wild west, family-friendly show that combines amazing magical illusions with the popular comedy entertainment of 100 years ago. The show begins its summer run on Friday, May 23, in Stevenson, Wash., and will run Friday and Saturday nights until Sept. 20. On Thursday, May 29, the theater will host a tourism employee appreciation night, with ticket discounts for employees who work in the tourism industry in Hood River and Skamania counties. Tess Barr, more at Trillium

Music returns to the Trillium Cafe in May with the Tess Barr Blues Band on Friday, May 16. On Saturday, May 17, it’s the return of the Ed Swick Trio with blues, surf and more. Music starts at 8 p.m. and there is no cover charge. Trillium Cafe, 207 Oak St., Hood River, 386-1996.

Garden starts at Saturday Market

Come get a taste of spring at the May 10 Saturday Market, and get your fresh garden and flower starts. Merriann Bell, owner of Rattlesnake Plants, has beautiful items that are ready to plant. ‘Tingstad & Rumbel’ May 18

On Sunday, May 18, at 7 p.m. Skamania Performing Arts presents Grammy Award winning duo Tingstad & Rumbel at the Bonneville Hot Springs Resort & Spa in North Bonneville, Wash. Eric Tingstad (guitar) and Nancy Rumbel (woodwinds) have performed, recorded and toured together for over 22 years with 19 albums to their credit. Their debut album, “The Gift,” quickly became a holiday classic. Dry County Crooks at River City

On Friday, May 16, it’s a debut performance with Portland’s Dry County Crooks at the River City Saloon. Have a listen at www.myspace.com/thedrycountycrooks. On Saturday, May 17, it’s the 2nd annual Second Wind Kite Board Party. Music will be provided by “Salem,” hailing from Boulder, Colo. Bonham, Stillway play May 17

The Mid Columbia Folklore Society hosts a house concert at 401 Montello, Hood River, on Saturday, May 17, starting at 7 p.m. with Jaime Stillway and Ben Bonham. Craft Beer Week May 12-18

This year, Full Sail in Hood River celebrates 21 years of doing what they love, brewing beer. To celebrate, Full Sail announces a new line-up of small-batch draft beers called “Brewer's Share.” The brewery will launch this special beer during American Craft Beer Week, May 12-18, which highlights the industry and culture of craft beer. Full Sail invites you to “Meet the Brewer and the Beer” on Thursday, May 15, at 5 p.m. Jamie Emmerson, Full Sail's executive brewmaster and brewer Barney Brennan will be on hand.

Barsamian lectures May 14

On Wednesday, May 14, at 7 p.m., Squrl Music and the Columbia River Fellowship for Peace will be hosting David Barsamian at the Pines Tasting Room, Second and State streets, Hood River. Barsamian will be speaking on the media and U.S. foreign policy. Tickets are a $10 donation at the door, and wine will be available for purchase. Music at The Pines Thursday
