Gene Caldwell
Bernerd Eugene “Gene” Caldwell, 69, a
longtime Hood River, Ore., resident, died May 21, 2009, at the
Hood River Care Center.
A service to honor Gene’s life is planed
for 11 a.m. Monday, June 1, at Anderson’s Tribute Center.
Gene was born Feb. 20, 1940, in Olympia,
Wash., to “Barney” and Edith (Carr) Caldwell. He graduated from
high school in Shelton, Wash., and then earned a bachelor’s
degree from St. Martin’s College in Lacey, Wash.
He came to Hood River in 1975 and worked
as an accountant for the next 32 years. He met and married his
wife, Gilona, in 1985.
Gene was a member of the Hood River
Rotary Club, Hood River Chamber of Commerce and the Hood River
Elks. He often volunteered his time helping senior citizens with
their tax returns. He also sold apples for Rotary and was a bell
ringer at Christmastime.
Gene loved music, football, basketball
and baseball. At one time he was a member and the commissioner
of a fantasy football team. Gene enjoyed league bowling, running
and jogging in local races.
He was preceded in death by his parents,
Barney and Edith Caldwell.
Gene is survived by his wife, Gilona;
daughter, Lisa Rothman, and sons Matt and Mike Caldwell, all of
Hood River. Four grandchildren also survive.
