Eric Taylor plays June 18

Eric Taylor, one of today's top performing songwriters, returns to The Dalles Civic Auditorium for a concert Thursday, June 18. Music starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $15.

Taylor’s new CD “Hollywood Pocketknife” has been hailed by Sing Out! magazine as “authoritative singing.....ranking among his finest works.”

‘Talking With’ auditions June 14

Auditions for the CAST production of “Talking With....” will be held June 14 at 1 p.m. and June 15 and 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Columbia Center for the Arts.

“Talking With....” by Jane Martin, is a study of love, loneliness and obsession mixed liberally with humor. Monologues by eleven different women run the gamut from a young “stressed out” auditioning actress, a woman in her 30s who’s recently lost her mother, to an elderly lady who aspires to live in a McDonald’s restaurant.

A wide range of roles are available for women ages 16 to 75. Anyone who wishes to review a script prior to the auditions should contact the director, Glenn Harris, at 386-5089.

Rehearsals will begin at the end of July with the play opening on Oct. 8.

Purple Ball at River City

Local and regional music hits the stage this week at the River City Saloon. On Friday, June 5, Spruce Bauer and Tony Amadao will open for Passafire, a band hailing from Savannah Ga. Check out www.myspace.com/passafire.

 On Saturday, June 6, the River City is hosting the second annual Purple Ball, an event celebrating Prince's birthday. The band will be performing Prince music all evening.

On Friday, June 12, MOO GOT 2 returns. This California group is on the rise. Check out their groovy music at www.myspace.com/moogot2.

 Finally, on Sunday, June 14, the River City Saloon and the Naked Winery will hold an anniversary street party from noon until midnight, featuring Sunderland, Speedqueen Underground, Tranquil Destination and The Quick and Easy Boys.

Blue Day at Naked Winery

Naked Winery features local and regional music this week. On Friday, June 5, it’s America’s Most Wanted with rocking country from 8-11 p.m. On Saturday, June 6, it’s music from Blue Day, from 8-11 p.m. On Sunday, June 7, it’s Swing Crew from 4-6 p.m.

On Mondays, don’t miss Naked Winery’s Open Mic Jam, starting at 7 p.m. Future shows include June 13: blues from Kevin Selfe and the Tornadoes.

Mark Chesnutt plays The Dalles

Country music artist Mark Chesnutt is coming to the Granada Theatre in The Dalles on Saturday, June 20. Music starts at 8 p.m. and tickets for general seating are $50.

 With five gold albums and 12 number 1 hits, Chesnutt is celebrating a 20-year career in the country music industry. Chesnutt’s new CD “Rollin with the Flow” features the listener-requested single “She Never Got Me Over You.”

Open Jam at Thirsty Woman

On Sunday, June 7, the Chill'in and Grill'in Series continues with an Open Bluegrass Jam  hosted by Peny Wallace and friends. All are invited to a friendly jam from 5-7  p.m.

On Friday, June 12, it’s a special performance from the Bram Brata Tri Cities Steel Band, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. With close to 30 members, this traveling group of young people will get you dancing. Visit www.tcsba.org  for more information.

Square Dance club celebrates

The Dalles Square Dance Club celebrates its 60th anniversary with a special dance on Sunday, June 7, at 5:30 p.m. at the The Dalles Civic Auditorium.

 Daryl Clendenin and Neva Reid will lead the dances. Visitors and longtime square dancers are welcome.

Music Mondays at Solstice

Solstice Cafe hosts Music Mondays on the patio with local music from Kerry Williams (June 8), Chic Preston (June 15), Lincoln Crockett (June 22). Music is from 6-8 p.m. and there is no admission charge.

Jes Karper at Saturday Market

This Saturday, Hood River Saturday Market welcomes acoustic/folk singer Jes Karper from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the main stage.

NIAYH plays Double Mt. June 6

Sternwheeler Days June 27-28

The Columbia Gorge Lions Club presents the annual Sternwheeler Days celebration on June 27-28, in Cascade Locks. The event will feature local arts and crafts, the Mountain Man encampment, and a full schedule of family entertainment.

A month of music at Everybody’s

Acoustic folk-bluegrass band Deadwood Revival returns to Everybody’s Brewing on Friday, June 12. The band has a new CD and actively tours the Northwest. Music starts at 8:30 p.m. and there is no cover charge.

 Future shows include: June 5: Pat Driver and the Collective - featuring 15 members of the White Salmon Jazz Band; June 19: Floating Glass Balls — Beachgrass band from Lincoln City; June 27: 4ontheFloor Bluegrass.

Miralee Ferrell at Waucoma

Waucoma Bookstore is hosting local Gorge author Miralee Ferrell for a book signing on Friday, June 5, from 5-8 p.m. Ferrell will be signing her new book “Love Finds You in Last Chance, California.”

 The novel is set in 1877 and is the story of Alexia Travers, who must care for her father’s horse ranch and make a successful living on her own. Miralee Ferrell lives in rural Washington. She is the author of “The Other Daughter,” and serves as a licensed minister actively involved in ministry to women.

Country Dance June 13

The Second Saturday Country Dance is scheduled for June 13, starting at 7 p.m. at the Rockford Grange. The caller will be Bill Martin, a well-known dance caller  from Portland.

The band will be The Fiddleheads, a nine-piece string band from the Columbia Gorge, with seven fiddles one bass and one guitar.

 Dance lessons will begin at 7 p.m. All ages welcome and no partner is required. Enjoy an evening of country squares, contras, circle dances and a few waltzes.

Admission is $6 for members, $7 for non-members.

Don LaBarge plays CEBU

Singer-songwriter Don LaBarge will be playing at the CEBU Lounge on Friday, June 5, from 7-9 p.m. LaBarge will be playing original songs from his CD “Silver Linings,” and select folk-rock covers.

Poole benefit at White House

A fundraiser for orchardist Don Poole will be held Saturday, June 6, starting at 6 p.m. at The Gorge White House. There will be music by SawCordius, an auction, food and no-host beverages. Tickets are $10 with all proceeds going to support Don Poole and his family after a recent farm accident.

On Sunday, June 7, featured textile artist of the month Judi Kane will hold a reception from 1-3 p.m. Stop by and meet Judi and enjoy complimentary wine from Waving Tree.

Free Shakespeare in the Gorge

The Portland Actors Ensemble presents a production of “King Lear” on Saturday, June 20, at the Stonehenge War Memorial in Goldendale, Wash. The play starts at 7:30 p.m. and is free to the public.

Full Sail remodels deck

Full Sail Brewing will have a party for its newly remodeled outdoor seating deck on Thursday, June 4. The deck will feature new artwork by local tile artist Shelly Toon.

Authors at Vance Art Gallery

The public is invited to an author reading at the Norman K. Vance Art Gallery on Sunday, June 7, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The reading will feature two well-known Gorge authors: Kristy Athens and Mary Schlick.

 Admission to this first Sunday series is free.

Skamania Arts concert series

A six concert series will bring regional and national acts to different venues in the Gorge and will run from April to September. The August concert will feature Janis Ian, and this will be her only Portland area appearance. Tickets are available online at www.skamaniaarts.org.
