‘Birdsong’ concert June 17
Folk musician Jeni Foster will play a
free concert at the Columbia Center for the Arts on Wednesday,
June 17, at 7:30 p.m.
In “BirdSong: Birds as Metaphor in
American Folk Music,” Foster explores the symbolism of birds
within the heritage of American folk music. She weaves
traditional and contemporary folk songs throughout her narrative
to expand upon the stories of everyday Americans and well-known
moments in our country’s history.
Audience participation enhances the
experience as Foster, who has had the family nickname of “Jeniwren”
since her childhood, invites audience members to sing along on
the choruses of songs chosen to illustrate her program.

Music at Maryhill Winery
Maryhill Winery hosts free live music on
the patio from 1-5 p.m.
On Saturday, June 20, it’s
Joanie’s Jazz Trio. “Pop hits, swing tunes, and jazz
compositions from the ’30s through the ’60s are lovingly
performed in a variety of tempos by these three skilled
musicians.
Joanie Lamoreaux on flute,
percussion and vocals, Michael Lamoreaux on keyboard and Charlie
Escher on bass. Their enthusiastic renditions of the standards
have made them a favorite throughout the Columbia Gorge.”
On Sunday, June 21, it’s Father’s Day
and resident pianist Sandee Marshall will be providing the
music.

A month of music at Everybody’s
Acoustic folk-bluegrass band Deadwood
Revival returns to Everybody’s Brewing on Friday, June 12. The
band has a new CD and actively tours the Northwest.

Country Dance June 13
The Second Saturday Country Dance is
scheduled for June 13, starting at 7 p.m. at the Rockford
Grange.
The caller will be Bill Martin, a
well-known dance caller from Portland. The band will be
The Fiddleheads, a nine-piece string band from the Columbia
Gorge with seven fiddles, one bass and one guitar.
Dance lessons will begin at 7 p.m.
All ages welcome and no partner is required. Enjoy an evening of
country squares, contras, circle dances and a few waltzes.

for non-members.
Skamania Arts concert series
A six concert series will bring regional
and national acts to different venues in the Gorge and will run
from April to September. The August concert will feature Janis
Ian, and this will be her only Portland area appearance.

‘Talking With’
auditions June 14
Auditions for the CAST production of
“Talking With....” will be held June 14 at 1 p.m. and June 15
and 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Columbia Center for the Arts.
“Talking With....” by Jane Martin,
is a study of love, loneliness and obsession mixed liberally
with humor. Monologues by 11 different women run the gamut from
a young “stressed out” auditioning actress, a woman in her 30s
who’s recently lost her mother, to an elderly lady who aspires
to live in a McDonald’s restaurant.
A wide range of roles are available for
women ages 16 to 75. Anyone who wishes to review a script prior
to the auditions should contact the director, Glenn Harris, at
386-5089.
Rehearsals will begin at the end
of July with the play opening on Oct. 8.
