Dorathy Miller

Dorathy Miller, 82, of Troutdale, Ore., passed away Jan. 4, 2010, in Clackamas, Ore., with her children by her side. She was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Howard and Zada (Saunders) Cramer Aug. 23, 1927.

She married the love of her life, Eugene C. Miller, July 3, 1943. They resided in Cascade Locks for 51 years and still consider it their home.

Dorathy was active in the PTA, the Cascade Locks Community Church and the Lady Lions when she lived in Cascade Locks and when she was able, but that has not been for many years.

Her favorite hobby was reading, and she loved spending time with her grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids.

Dorathy was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Winston (1987) and Basil (2005); and her sister Ina Jacobson (2009).

She is survived by her husband; her sister Marge, of Springfield, Ore.; her son, Sam (Sharon), of Portland;, her daughters Zada Goucher, of Belfair, Wash., and Anna (Brian) Barnett, of Troutdale; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held in Cascade Locks and were well-attended by friends and family.

Ella Mae Nichols

Ella Mae Nichols passed away peacefully with family by her side on Jan. 12, 2010, at the Hood River Care Center. Ella was born March 19, 1923, in Lyndon, Kansas, to Jessie and Jesse (Dempster) Paulsen and was 86 years of age at the time of her passing.

A service to honor Ella is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19th, at the Hood River Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1824 May St. Viewing is scheduled on Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River.

On June 29, 1947, Ella married Darrell Ware Nichols in Portland, Ore.; their marriage was later sealed in the Portland, Ore., Temple. To this union were blessed two children, Donna and Wayne. The family lived in Hood River and enjoyed the great outdoors, swimming and camping together.

Darrell and Ella operated the popcorn wagon and were well-known as the “popcorn kids.”

Ella was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Ella is survived and will be dearly missed by her daughter, Donna Schmidlin, and son-in-law, Larry, of Banks, Ore.; grandchildren Darrell, Angela, Julie and Corey; and great-grandchildren Teagan, Grayson, Lorelai and Charles.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband and son, who passed away in a tragic accident on Oct. 15, 1966.

Memorial contributions are suggested in memory of Ella to the American Cancer Society and sent care of Anderson’s.
