FISH food bank is coming to Parkdale.
FISH steering committee members have long seen the
need for a weekly food bank satellite location in the Upper Valley, and
that goal is about to become real.
FISH food bank will open on April 2 and will be
open every Monday from 4-6 p.m.
“A satellite office in Parkdale will increase
access to the Upper Valley residents who may have difficulty with
transportation needs and have not been able to reach the FISH office in
town,” said FISH board chairwoman Marianne Durkan.
FISH’s hope is also to piggyback with Providence’s
Mobile Health Unit, which is currently in Parkdale every Monday afternoon.
“The clients that have unmet health needs may also
have unmet basic needs and are experiencing food insecurity,” Durkan said.
Glenna Mahurin has volunteered to be the
coordinator for the Upper Valley satellite.
FISH plans to transport food from Hood River to
Parkdale each week, due to the small size of the room.
