Hood River News and Saturday Market organizers have
teamed up to honor hometown heroes on Armed Forces Day, May 19.
Community members are being invited on the third
Saturday in May to help assemble care packages for local soldiers,
sailors, airmen and Marines. (A story about the event at Fifth and
Columbia streets will be published on May 12).
The News would like to assist the efforts of Sara
Peterson, market manager, and Brenda Herman, president of the Saturday
Market board. So, in the May 19 issue the newspaper plans to publish
photos of military personnel with Hood River ties.
Please bring photos with a brief biography that
includes branch of service, rank, area of specialty and duty station (if
possible) to our office at 419 State St. by May 15. Submissions can also
be made via e-mail to rricarte@eaglenewspapers.com.
Military addresses will also be collected so that treat
and hygiene items can be delivered to the troops. However, these addresses
are not for publication and will be turned over to Herman and Peterson on
May 19. Addresses can also be brought directly to Saturday Market that
day.
