Decker runs for re-election

May 9, 2007

One candidate was inadvertently left off a story profiling candidates for the May 15 county-wide election in the May 5 Hood River News.

Incumbent Don Decker is one of three candidates for one position in the Ice Fountain Water District. Randy Franz and Brad Fowler were profiled earlier. The candidates were asked three questions:

n Describe your background and interest in the position.

n What do you hope to accomplish in this position?

n What do you see as the challenges and opportunities for this board or commission?

Don Decker:

Having lived in Hood River since 1970 and been a previous aerial applicator until 1992, I now manage a small orchard and currently serve as Ice Fountain’s board chairman.

I am very proud of the Ice Fountain Water District and the way it has been managed now and in the previous years. It is a very efficient water district, with low overhead and an extremely skilled group.

In approximately 18 years of serving on the board, we’ve been through many trials, of which the most recent was the flood that damaged our headworks. We were able to discontinue service to our customers without disruption due to the forethought and preparedness of the district.

It is my desire to see this type of management and forethought continue in the years to come.
