College officials and Hood River community leaders shovel the ceremonial first soil on the $6 million Columbia Gorge Community College Hood River campus, during Tuesday’s groundbreaking ceremony. The campus is located on the Heights at 12th and Pacific; construction will start this month. Speakers included college president Frank Toda, Mayor Linda Streich and CGCC Student Council president Andrew Burke. County Economic Development Coordinator Bill Fashing also spoke, telling the 100 people in attendance, "This is a huge opportunity for the college and for the community."
