HRVHS senior Jacquie Mattson won the 6A state high jump
championship at the state track and field Championships in Eugene on
Thursday.
Mattson took the title by equaling her own school
record of 5’05 and then waiting as McNary’s Megan Hingston came up short
on her final jump.
John Vann, HRV’s high jumping coaching said that
Mattson earned the victory with her hard work.
“I wish I had another year with her,” he said. “She has
improved every year and she deserves it.”
Mattson’s jump gave Hood River Valley its first track
and field state champion since 1999, and its first ever girls high jump
champion.
She is planning on competing in the high jump at
Seattle Pacific next year.
