Commander Caren McCurdy will report to San Diego in June as the environmental legal counselor to the Navy Region Southwest Commander. She has been assigned to the Judge Advocate General’s Corps since 1992 and will receive a Master of Laws degree in Environmental Law on May 26 from Lewis and Clark College of Law in Portland. She is the daughter of Richard and Lorraine McCurdy of Hood River.

Pvt. 2 Michelle A. Tanner serves with Army military intelligence. She is stationed at Camp Humphries in South Korea and is the daughter of Pat Tanner and Don Tanner, both of Hood River.

Lance Cpl. Nicholas P. Chacon has just completed training in Pensacola, Fla., as a Marine Corps basic ordnanceman. He is now stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego and is the son of Army Sgt. Genaro Chacon of Hood River.

Lance Cpl. Dustin A. Vorce deployed to Iraq in April with Charlie Company of the 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Division. He is the grandson of Josephine Efteland of Hood River.

Pvt. 2 Paul Brown serves with the Army’s 70th Engineering Battalion in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. He is the son of Jim and Cathy Brown of Hood River.

Petty Officer 2 Billy Bayless is a Navy cryptologist working with the National Security Agency in Maryland. His grandparents, Bill and Lavon Bayless, reside near Dee.

Petty Officer 2 Frank Bayless is stationed in Hawaii with the Navy and works as an intelligence technician. He is the grandson of Bill and Lavon Bayless, who reside near Dee.

Lance Corporal Karen Bayless is stationed in Hawaii and serves as a cryptologist with the Marine Corps. She is the granddaughter of Bill and Lavon Bayless, who reside near Dee.

Warrant Officer Daniel Thompson is an Army pilot currently training in basic war fighting skills at Ft. Rucker, Ala., as part of B Company in the 1/145th Aviation Regiment. He flies a Bell 206 TH-67 Jet Ranger helicopter and is the son of Hood River City Police Lt. David Thompson.

Pvt.1 Christopher L. Davis is an infantryman who is deployed to Iraq and provides support for Marine Corps 1st Recon Battalion. He is the son of Kim Paulk, who works for Hood River County.

Lance Cpl. Kyle R. Davis is on his way to a third tour of duty in Iraq. He is assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Combat Team 1. During his first deployment, he earned the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for saving the life of a comrade in arms. He is the son of Kim Paulk, who works for Hood River County.

Petty Officer 3 Benjamin Hargreaves served with the Navy aboard the nuclear-powered supercarrier U.S.S. Nimitz, one of largest warships in the world. He is an aviation bosun’s mate and the son of Elaina Hargreaves of Hood River.

Pvt. 1 J.D. Hardman was involved in the initial invasion of Iraq and assigned to the Army 3rd Infantry Division. He is the son of Dean and Cecelia Hardman of Hood River and Cathy Moon of Hood River.

Specialist Eric Parker is assigned to the Army’s 546th Military Police Company and is serving his second tour of duty in Afghanistan. He is the son of Bill and Ann Parker of Hood River. He is married to April Ford from The Dalles and they have two young daughters.

Pvt.2 Adam VandenBos is stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, and assigned to the Army’s 2nd Platoon of Foxtrot Company with the 309th Military Intelligence Battalion and 111th Brigade. He is the son of Rick and Carmen VandenBos of Hood River.

Senior Airman Ryan D. Arnell received the Air Force Achievement Medal for Meritorious Service and the Expeditionary Service Ribbon after serving with the 407th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron at Tallil Air Base in Iraq during several months of 2004. He has also been assigned to Osan Air Base in Korea since joining the military in 2002 and is currently serving at Elmendorf Air Base in Anchorage, Alaska. He is the son of Cathy Arnell and Kelly Arnell, both of Hood River.

Navy Deep Sea Diver Cameron S. Adams is attached to the U.S.S. Emory S. Land, a submarine tender based in Sardinia, Italy. Adams dives around the world and is the son of Hood River’s Bobbie Adams and grandson of local resident Betty Sheppard.
