Soroptimist accepts applications for Women's Opportunity Award

May 23, 2007

Soroptimist International of Hood River will present four $625 Women’s Opportunity Awards Aug. 1.

Applications are now available and are due back by June 30.

Women who are single parents and/or have primary financial responsibility for their households are eligible to apply for the Women’s Opportunity Award.

The award is to assist women in furthering their education in order to improve their lives.

This award is not a scholarship; the funds can be designated and used for educational expenses other than tuition such as needed baby-sitters, gas money to attend class or books.

Soila Loeza, recipient of the recent Mt. Adams Soroptimist Club Women’s Opportunity Award, says, “This award has opened the doors for me to start over again and make my dream come true of going back to school.”

With this award, Loeza is going to take two courses at the Columbia Gorge Community College. Loeza has been working with preschoolers for nine years and she wants to study in fields related to children.

To be eligible to apply for the Hood River award, applicants must either live or work in Hood River County. There will be an opportunity for one of the four Hood River Soroptimist recipients to compete for a regional award of $3,000 in April 2008.

Applications are available at the Hood River County Library or online at:

www.okelydokely.com.
