Dr. Timothy Nonn, coordinator of the International
Campaign for Justice in Sudan, will speak in Hood River on Saturday, June
9, at 6 p.m. at Riverside Community Church.
Nonn’s visit to the Gorge is part of a national tour to
raise awareness about the genocide in Darfur and the case against Sudan at
the International Criminal Court.
“This is the first time in history that a sitting
government will be tried for crimes against humanity,” Nonn said.
“For too long, people have neglected the injustice and
suffering that ravage people’s lives in Darfur. The situation cries out
for a response from us all,” said Rev. Vicky Stifter, pastor at Riverside
Community Church.
“International support for justice in Sudan is
growing,” stated Rev. John Boonstra, pastor of Bethel Congregational
Church in White Salmon, Wash. “We invite the faith community and other
concerned people in the Gorge to learn more about the crisis in Darfur and
help provide moral leadership in this critical hour to stand up for the
dignity of its people.”
The event is co-sponsored by Riverside Community Church and Bethel
Congregational Church of White Salmon. The community is welcome to attend.
A light dinner will be served.
