Some use words on a page to create art. Others draw
pictures. Elsie Denton does not mind doing either. The incoming junior at
Colgate University is interning at the News this summer, and the Arts and
Features editor at the Colgate Maroon News, who also draws political
cartoons for the paper, is hoping go back to school in the spring with
improved journalism skills.
Im hoping to learn more about reporting and writing
good articles, she said. I want to learn more about being an editor.
For the biology major with a Spanish minor reporting is
about getting to pass on stories, and teach others about what she has
learned.
Its interesting to learn things, write about them,
and them let other people know about it, she said.
In addition to writing and drawing for the paper at
Colgate, Denton also draws an online graphic novel called Quest
which features the exploits of several fantasy characters who come across
all manner of problems in their journeys.
Denton herself has several journeys in mind once she
concludes her college career, including learning more languages and
possibly volunteering abroad after graduation.
Until she gets to that journey, though, Denton will settle for the
journeys that she creates every day with pictures and words.
