As the warm weather approaches, the need for blood
increases. With more people on the roads and fewer people giving, the
blood supply reaches drastically low levels in the summer months.
According to American Red Cross officials, blood donors
are essential in helping premature babies, cancer and surgery patients and
accident victims receive blood and blood products in order to stay alive.
The American Red Cross is holding several blood drives
throughout the Mid Columbia area in June:
n
Wednesday, June 6, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, The Dalles, 10 a.m. to 3
p.m., (541) 296-9322
n Thursday, June 7, American Red Cross office, Hood River, 11 a.m.
to 4 p.m. (541) 386-6000
Donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh a minimum
of 110 pounds and be in good general health. Donors are encouraged to make
an appointment to give blood.
Because whole blood is separated and transfused as
components, one blood donation can help as many as three people. For
questions about donor eligibility, please call (800) GIVE-LIFE or e-mail:
