Eight acres of
port property in Hood River could be the site for a future RV park.
Port
commissioners discussed the idea at their July 3 meeting. Consultant
Richard Stockwell wrote the report regarding the suitability for a
temporary facility.
The port is
considering putting in 64 spaces on a parcel near the wastewater treatment
plant for a temporary period of five to seven years.
The study
estimated a cost of $20,000 to $24,000 per site with a total cost of
$1.5-$2 million for the entire project. Executive Director Michael McElwee
asked the commissioner for feedback to assess whether the investment is
worth pursuing or not.
Commissioners
Fred Duckwall and Hoby Streich were in favor of developing the property
but Commissioner Sherry Bohn questioned the cost.
“It’s too
expensive of a solution for the issue. We were looking for a temporary
solution, not a full-blown RV park,” Bohn said.
Streich said
some development would be a better use of the property than just leaving
it vacant. The commissioners agreed to have staff to take the next steps
in coming up with alternatives for the proposal. |
