Rep. Patti Smith, R-Corbett, has decided not to
seek re-election to the House District 52 seat that she has held
since 2000.
“I think eight years in office is enough,” said
Smith, “I have tried to provide a voice for my constituents and
I plan to continue doing that, although I’m not yet sure what
opportunity I’ll pursue next.”
For the remainder of 2008, Smith will continue
representing citizens in Hood River County, as well as part of
East Multnomah County and the Sandy/Mount Hood area. She is
gearing up now for the Legislature’s special session in
February.
“My greatest sense of achievement has come from
working for the people. I feel very humbled and honored to do
that. I have learned so much about local issues in each of my
communities and have done everything that I could to meet their
needs,” said Smith.
During her tenure, Smith was vice-chair of the
House Agriculture and Natural Resource Committee, chair of Trade
and Economic Development and Assistant Majority Leader. She
served as state director of Women in Government, on the
Governor’s Alternative Energy Task Force and Meth Task Force.
