In the procession, participants
carry artistic renditions of animals and their habitat that are threatened
by environmental degradation. In the past, the event filled Oak Street in
Hood River, but this year the procession will be held at the Mark Hatfield
West Trailhead on the Old Columbia River Highway.
The run begins at 9 a.m. sharp;
the “Procession of the Species” starts at 9:30 a.m.
There will be an Earth Day
blessing ceremony at 11 a.m. at the riverside overlook, located next to
the event site. Community yoga classes are scheduled for 5 p.m. at various
locations thorough out the Hood River valley.
Participants are asked to wear a
favorite “species” costume for the procession (see
www.procession.org for
inspiration).
Events are sponsored by the Gorge
Grown Network and the Columbia Gorge Earth Center.
There will be a $3 parking fee at
the state park entrance.
