June 11, 2008It’s tassel-turning week for the Class of 2008 at the
three Hood River County high schools.
For those who might like to witness this rite of passage, here are
graduation details from Hood River Valley High School, Cascade Locks
School and Horizon Christian School:
• Hood River Valley High School will hold commencement exercises
Friday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m. on the football field. About 268 seniors
will be crossing the stage that evening. This will be the last graduation
ceremony to be overseen by departing Principal Steve Fisk. (See box for
details about a reception for Fisk and Connie Kennedy, assistant
superintendent, who is also leaving at the end of the year.)
Each graduating student will receive two preferred seating tickets at
graduation practice on Friday. There is plenty of additional seating
available in the bleachers.
A professional photographer will be at the ceremony to take photos of
each student as he/she receives a diploma. Family and friends are asked to
help maintain a positive atmosphere by remaining in their seats during the
ceremony.
As in prior years, an all-night alcohol- and drug-free graduation party
will be held later in the evening at the Elks Lodge.
• Cascade Locks will hold its graduation ceremony Saturday, June 14, at
1 p.m. in the school gym. The school has 11 graduating seniors this year.
Daniel Nolin was chosen as valedictorian for his class, and Kristen
Rutherford selected as salutatorian.
Afterward the ceremony the grads will join family and friends
downstairs in the cafeteria for a graduation party.
• Horizon Christian School will hold its commencement exercises
Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m. in the school’s sanctuary. The public is
welcome to attend. There will be a reception following the ceremony.
This year Horizon has nine graduating seniors. Hannah Wesner is class
valedictorian, and Zack Schreiner is salutatorian.
