The “True County Fair” returns
next week in Odell.
The Hood River County Fair’s theme
this year will be “Go Hog Wild” during its July 23-26 run.
Most events start on Wednesday,
but people entering open class competition in baked goods, clothing,
photography, art and other categories need to present their entries Monday
and Tuesday.
Open class small animal entries
are on Tuesday morning, and flower registration happens Wednesday morning.
Open class judging for all but
flowers happens from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday; Flowers judging takes place noon
to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

available at stores in Hood River, Odell, Parkdale and Cascade Locks and
at the fair office, 3020 Wy’east Road.
Gates open at noon each day,
carnival rides begin at 1 p.m. General admission is $6 per adult
Wednesday-Friday, $8 per adult on Saturday, $2 for children aged 6-12, and
children younger than 6, free.
Discounted bracelets for the
Cascade Amusement rides must be purchased by 5 p.m., Wednesday, July 23,
“Bracelet Day” on Cascade Amusements carnival rides: Save money on rides
by purchasing a $17 ride bracelet ticket for just $12 in advance of the
fair’s opening. They’re available at the fair office and Clem’s Market in
Odell, Klindt’s Booksellers in The Dalles, and at Juanita’s Market, PBS
and E.T.C. in Hood River. Family Day is Wednesday; admission is only $12
per car.
Kids aged 8-18 are invited to compete in the cell
phone digital photo contest. Take photos at the fair; they’ll be displayed
at the PBS booth. Cash prizes will be awarded daily, with a grand prize
awarded on Saturday. The winning photo will appear on next year’s fair
book cover.
