Hood River Fire Department responded within
minutes Saturday to a fire in Jennifer Ashley’s home at Belmont and 14th
Streets in Hood River. Neighbors called 911 shortly after the fire broke
out at about 5 p.m. No one was in the house at the time. The home is a
rental owned by Jennifer Ashley. The fire melted the siding on the west
outside wall of the century-old home, and firefighters had to cut holes in
that portion of the house to vent vapor and flames that had developed
inside. A hole was also cut in the second story northwest corner. Belmont
Avenue was closed for about an hour between 13th and 18th
while firefighters mopped up.
