An Odell woman was killed Saturday
night in a head-on crash involving two vehicles on Highway 35 near
milepost 94.
Violet Lucinda Oatman, 23, was
pronounced dead following the collision about 9:25 p.m. on Aug. 2. Two
Portland men were transported to different medical centers for treatment
of their injuries.
According to Oregon State Police
reports, Oatman was driving a 1997 Ford Taurus northbound in the
southbound lane of Highway 35. She reportedly crashed head-on with a
southbound 1999 Ford F350 pickup driven by Ramiro Diaz Zamudio, 36.
He was taken via ambulance to
Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening
injuries. His right rear passenger, Raymundo Delayo-Lopez, 38, was
critically injured in the wreck and taken by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel
Hospital in Portland.
Delayo-Lopez’ front passenger,
Celeino Valle-Guzman, 45, from Hood River, was uninjured.
OSP troopers from The Dalles
office were assisted at the accident scene by the Hood River County
Sheriff’s Office, the Oregon Department of Transportation and local fire
department personnel.
Highway 35 was closed about four hours during
OSP’s investigation. Lt. Gregg Hastings, spokesperson for the agency, said
it will be several weeks before toxicology tests determine whether drugs
and/or alcohol was a factor.
