The
Mt. Hood
Town Hall is hosting “A Taste of the
Town: Celebrating Culture, Cuisine, and Community,” Saturday, Sept. 13.
This quarterly “live and local event” will offer live music and
sampling of various foods prepared in a local competition
including: a barbecue with side salad, dessert and homemade salsa.
Homemade refreshments, crafts and baked goods will also be
available at the Children’s Market.
“This is a perfect opportunity to bring your family and enjoy the
delights of the upper valley,” said event co-chair Kim Chadney in
a press release. “We are encouraging people to pair up with a
friend or neighbor and enter the food competition to help us
create a really fun and memorable food-tasting event.”
The Mt.
Hood
Town Hall is an ideal gathering
place where families can come together to enjoy their neighbors’
company as well as their cooking. It will be a hometown event
where you can sample some good old-fashioned barbecue fresh off
the grill; fresh, locally grown fruit and salsa, and a variety of
scrumptious homemade desserts.
“The valley has a diversity of talented individuals and a bounty
of fresh fruit; we’d like to pair the two and present the
community’s culinary skills with locally grown produce to provide
an affair for all to enjoy,” Chadney said.
The event will kick off at noon with a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting
commemorating the Town Hall’s recent membership in the Hood River
Chamber. In honor of Hood
River
County’s Centennial Celebration, The
History Museum of Hood River County will have information on
Preserving Family Heritage, and Kiyokawa Orchards will offer
educational displays on a variety of fruits and free, fresh fruit
samplings.
Live and local music will play throughout the event, beginning at
noon with Ben Bonham, continuing with Tom May, and an
upper valley favorite, Zamba. Local storyteller Zoe Campbell will
be on hand for the telling of culturally rich stories.
Entry forms for all food entries can be
picked up at Mt. Hood Country Store, McIsaac’s or the farmers
market in Hood
River. Community participation is
encouraged; please contact volunteer coordinator Cara Vance at 352-4265 to lend a helping
hand. For more information, please also visit
