away, fire officials want to use the occasion to educate people
on how to “fire-proof” their homes.

years at educating the community about the concept of making
homes “lean, mean and green,” to be as prepared as possible

Fires combine the elements of fuel,
oxygen and heat. Fires become larger depending on several
factors. One of the most important is fuel. If fuel is not
available, then the fire is limited with how much it can move or
grow.
One of the primary tools available
to protect a home from wildland fire is to create a defensible
space. People can create this to slow down or stop a wildfire
from reaching their home.
