Fire prevention tips

Before the memory of the Frankton Road Fire fades away, fire officials want to use the occasion to educate people on how to “fire-proof” their homes.

Fires combine the elements of fuel, oxygen and heat. Fires become larger depending on several factors. One of the most important is fuel. If fuel is not available, then the fire is limited with how much it can move or grow.

One of the primary tools available to protect a home from wildland fire is to create a defensible space. People can create this to slow down or stop a wildfire from reaching their home.
